Executive Summary
Introduction:
The Caring Community Initiatives project project aims to create a positive impact on vulnerable women and elderly individuals within the community of Sheki Town, Dedo Woreda. By deploying a range of targeted programs and services, the project seeks to empower and support these individuals, enhancing their overall well-being and quality of life.
Objectives:
Empower Vulnerable Women: We aim to provide support and resources that empower vulnerable women, helping them overcome challenges and improve their socio-economic status. Our goal is to promote gender equality, boost self-confidence, and foster self-sufficiency among this population.
Assist the Elderly: Our project seeks to address the unique needs of the elderly population by offering comprehensive assistance. Our aim is to enhance their physical health, mental well-being, and social connectedness through various programs and services. Continue reading
Approach:
To achieve our objectives, we have identified the following key approaches:
* Establishing VSLAs for female-headed households
– Assessing the vulnerability of female-headed households
– Collaborating with government entities and local administrations
– Streamlining the application process
– Formation of a transparent beneficiary selection committee
– Establishing VSLA groups
– Providing comprehensive training
– Establishing an initial revolving fund
– Monitoring, support, and mentorship
– Graduation and sustainability
* Providing healthcare support to destitute elderly individuals
– Screening and identification
– Social worker/volunteer visits
– Cash transfer
– Collaborate with local health facilities and health professionals
– Monitoring and support
Expected Outcomes:
The project aims to bring about positive impacts in terms of economic empowerment and healthcare support for the targeted beneficiaries, ultimately leading to improved socio-economic conditions and quality of life for the female-headed households and elderly individuals. Accordingly, the measurable outcomes of the project with the two major objectives are as follows:
* Economic Empowerment
– The number of female-headed households that participate in VSLAS
– The increase in savings deposits within the VSLAs
– The number of households that demonstrate improved financial knowledge and skills
– The number of households that utilize their savings for income-generating activities
– The number of households that start or expand income-generating activities
– The increase in household income levels
* Healthcare Support
– The number of regular medical check-ups conducted for target individuals
– The number of necessary medications provided
– The number of cases where specialized home care was arranged and delivered
– Improvements in target individuals’ physical health
– The reduction in the number of bedridden days among target individuals
– Increased access to social support and care services
Budget:
The estimated budget for the Caring Community Initiatives project for three years is ETB 2,262,530 (ETB 627,000 for year I, ETB 711,100 for year II, and ETB 924,430 for year III). This includes costs for establishing empowerment programs, training and engaging volunteers, coordinating support services, and promoting community events.
